I bought this as a heater for my bedroom which doesn’t get enough heat from my furnace. It can be used as a standalone heater or as an insert for a fireplace. I use it as a standalone. The flames are quite realistic and the heater is very warm. I like that it has two heaters that can run together to provide 1500 watts of heat or 1 heater alone with 750 watts. You can run it with or without the flames. However, the flames create a nice ambience so I always have them on. You can run the flames without the heater as well. I do wish it had thermostat control.as well but you have a little control by running either one or both heaters. I just turn the heat off or awhile if it gets too warm. It comes with a remote and there aew the same controls on the fireplace itself. So I’m pretty happy with it. I have placed it on a short cabinet to raise it up to the level of the bed. This standalone can easily be moved from room to room making it versatile. Also, the cabinet doesn’t get very hot. You can see in the photo that I have a cloth cat on one side and a doll on the other..
