I am giving these 5 stars because they have done everything I have needed them to.
PROS: They are sturdy. I weigh around 350 lbs. and it holds me just fine. Also, they are extremely compact. I live in a tiny space, and these allow me to fold them up and put them out of site into very thin places. They actually fold up “all the way” in a way that minimizes how much space it takes up. These work perfect for indoor/outdoor, so I find myself carrying these onto the patio sometimes. They are super lightweight, which means you can take them virtually everywhere, even a kid’s football game (if they don’t have bleachers), to the beach, to a tailgate party, or pull out for guests if you live in a tiny studio.
CONS: You don’t want to lean forward and try to pick something up while you are in this. You might fall. I have learned that if I drop something while sitting in this chair, I will physically get off the chair before attempting to pick anything up. I have seen other reviewers complaining about this too, and it is true. Leaning in is no good.
But despite the risk of it tipping over if you are leaning nearly all the way out of the chair, it works 100% perfectly for just plain sitting. I can’t tell you how pleased I am to have a chair that is sturdy enough to handle my weight and be light enough that I can carry anywhere, and thin enough that I can fold two of them up, and they’ll fit behind my door.
If you want a padded seat, I would recommend buying seat covers separately so you can wash them in a washing machine. I don’t like built-in padded seats, because washing them is too difficult if you use them for indoor/outdoor. Also, I like that these have a very sturdy back support. I can lean my weight on the back just fine. I just wouldn’t tilt the seat backward or forward because it wasn’t built for a balancing act. I also like that it doesn’t have arm rests because my body is wide, and I don’t like how those normally feel on my thighs and hips. This gives me full range to do what I need to do, whether that be playing the guitar, hanging out with friends, doing homework next to a desk, kicking my feet up on it from the bed (yes, it can be treated like an ottoman), or a temporary table to hold my toolbox when I’m repairing a light fixture or something.
