We estimate that we’ll pay for the cooler in about a year with the money we save on buying ice. The cooler was recommended to me by a fellow-RV’er who had researched for some time and came to the conclusion that the Costway cooler was the way to go for reliability in the compressor and overall construction. We weren’t disappointed in our purchase. Being able to adjust the temperature, even to a below zero setting, is fantastic. And to have a cover that opens to the front or to the back, or that you can simply lift off totally, is quite a pleasant surprise. It’s a heavy cooler and it would be best to load it up AFTER carrying it to your car. Remember: it’s a fridge with a compressor. It’s going to be a little heavier than a simple insulated box. The power drain on my “house batteries” is negligible. I ran the cooler for 24 hours and tested the battery voltage before and after. The before voltage was 12.3 volts and the after voltage was 12.2 volts. The cooler doesn’t run continuously but only when the temperature needs it. Having a readout of the temp on the outside of the cooler is a blessing.
