The reel is light weight, but holds our tarp well and is very steady. In my picture, the reel is holding a 20′ x 40′ solar tarp 12mm thick over our 19′ x 30′ foot pool. You are able to lock the reel in place when you roll it and after unrolling and we connected it to a tarp bought from another store by puncturing our own holes with a screw driver. am very happy it worked out!
